The Nigerian Army has issued a wanted notice for one of its own soldiers, Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, over accusations that he sold military uniforms to terrorist groups and other criminal networks.
The announcement came from the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordinance Corps in a statement released Thursday by Maj. Oluwatope Aluko, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Corps. According to the statement, early investigations tied Amutu to the illegal supply chain after he went missing from his post.
Amutu had been stationed at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory before he disappeared from his unit on June 3, 2026. Military authorities have since launched a manhunt, with the statement noting that efforts to track him down and bring him in for questioning and possible disciplinary action are ongoing.
The Ordinance Corps used the announcement to reaffirm its hard line on misconduct, stating that it would not tolerate behavior that undermines the Army’s effectiveness, reputation, or the country’s security. It cautioned that any soldier caught helping terrorists or criminal groups by illegally selling, diverting, or handing over uniforms, gear, or other restricted equipment would face serious consequences under both military and civilian law.
The Corps also called on the public for help, asking anyone with relevant information about Amutu’s whereabouts to contact the nearest military base or security agency. It closed by emphasizing its ongoing commitment to transparency and professionalism, saying it would keep tightening internal oversight and pursue full accountability for anyone found responsible for wrongdoing.
