The police budget under the authority of the executive chairman Alhaji Mohammed Saidu with the fiscal allocation of 233.91 billion Naira to be spent for security architecture is now mismanaged by a cabal from the Senate to the Ministry of. Interior which the police force belongs to.
It is pertinent to note that if the police allocation is properly handled and effectively utilized, it will go a long way in straightening security problems in the country. The budget allocation should be distributed to all cops formations now but the reverse is the case. The cops budget is approved by Senate to the Ministry of interior by the accountant general to all police pay officers in all the states to mechanise salary structure for payment now This money passes to the senators for approval but before it comes to the cops budget, the money is reduced because of corruption and the police authority have their deficiency of mismanaged funds the police vehicles are to be distributed to all commissioners of police by the inspector general of police for adequate utilization but few are given to DPOs and Area commanders ,before you know the vehicles are worn out. There is low maintenance culture in the police force. If you call for a distress call there is no vehicle to respond or no fuel to attend to such call, No communication gadgets for effective communication, no effective serviceable rifle, no writing material like case file for prosecution no wonder the cops will asked for money to execute arrest and bail which is to be free no good accommodation for the men to work now. Cops are being ejected from barracks and the men given 2000000 for compensation e.g. Obalende barracks in Lagos and this ejection is going round all the police barracks in the country,
it has gotten to Cross River State who is in charge of this menace because of the high level of corruption by the authority who are in charge, No country in the world can sell its police barracks to an individual; It is because corruption is a cankerworm that has so much eaten deep into the system no society can survive with poor security architecture of mismanagement from the authority The Federal government cops kits are being sold to individuals not adequately distributed to deserving officers until corruption is being checked from top to the grass root budget will still be in shambles.
